Let's Rock Roc Day

Saturday, January 15th the spinners will converge with wheels, spindles, challenge projects, and tasty bites in hand for the annual Roc Day event. 

We'll arrive early and be ready to play at 10:15.  Games Mistress Jeannine will lead the spinning mayhem, read us stories and tell us spinning legends.  We'll spin, we'll laugh, we'll vote on each other's projects, have a potluck lunch together, hope to win a door prize, and vow to return next January to do it all again.  I can't wait, how 'bout you?

Time for the Holidays

Tulsa Handspinners will have their Christmas Luncheon and gift exchange on Saturday, December 18 at the usual meeting place--Martin Regional Library, 26th & Garnett, and at the usual time-10am to 1pm.

No Monday Spin-In on December 6

The Tulsa Handspinners will NOT be having the monthly Barnes and Noble Spin-In on December 6.  There is just too much going on at the store during the Christmas season.

Hope to see everyone at the Guild Christmas party and spin-in on December 18.   

November Meeting 11-20

WHAT, you ask is Rock Day and WHAT is the fiber exchange?

GOOD QUESTIONS!

Rock Day or St. Distaff Day is a day of spinning silliness and games sponsored in January every year by the Tulsa Handspinners.  Rock Day is a long-standing European tradition which takes place on the first day back to work after the Feast of the Epiphany, or 12th Night of Christmas.  According to Rock Day Scholar and Games Mistress Jeannine, the women went back to work spinning a day before the men went to the fields which resulted in young men playing tricks on young women including setting the spinning flax on fire which required the women to douse the  flax and men with water--or something like that--this was long before football bowl games.  Anyway, at our January meeting we play, have a pot luck lunch, and win prizes.

Fiber Exchange/Rock Day Project--A prize is awarded for the best project made from the fiber exchange and rock.  At the November meeting everyone who wants to participate puts 2 ounces of fiber and a rock into a bag along with any embellishments the giver wants to include.  The project must include the rock and must be made with the fiber included in the bag and only the fiber in the bag.  Everyone at Rock Day votes on the best use of fiber & rock.

Dues are due in November--$20 for the year.  

October Meeting

October 16 at 10 am, Martin Regional Library--Be there!!

After a short business meeting and show & tell, our guest Nancy Foster will have a hands-on needle felting demonstration where we'll make felted critters: butterflies, lady bugs, or bees.  

Our teacher isn't a spinner, so she doesn't have a big fiber stash--we can fix that.  Please bring a handful of colored wool from your stash to help her out.  


Some guild members will be demonstrating at the Route 66 Flywheelers (antique) Tractor Show on Saturday and Sunday October 16 & 17th in Catoosa at Rogers Point Park.  This is the group's 20th Annual Show and for the first time they are including a craft show. We've been asked to demonstrate our antique-ish craft of spinning.  Even if you can't come demo, it might be a fun event to attend, and it's FREE!!   So, put on your overalls and get yourself to Catoosa.  
(just kidding about the overalls).
